SS501 (dibaca Double S 501) adalah boy band asal Korea Selatan. Grup ini terdiri dari 5 orang anggota di bawah manajemen DSP Entertainment.
Anggotanya terpilih dalam acara pencari bakat m!pick bulan Maret 2005. Acara hasil kerja sama televisi kabel KM dan Mnet ini membuat mereka populer. Kafe khusus penggemar bahkan sudah dibuka sebelum SS501 resmi memulai debutnya. Singel perdana mereka "경고" (Gyeonggo) dirilis bulan Juni 2005. Anggotanya aktif sebagai MC, model, bintang iklan, pertunjukan beragam, DJ, dan aktor.
Awalnya, "S" pertama dari "SS501" adalah singkatan untuk "Super", sedangkan "S" kedua untuk "Singersongwriter". Angka "5" melambangkan jumlah anggota, 0 melambangkan "tak terhingga", dan "1" berarti nomor 1. Namun sekarang, "S" pertama berarti "Sun, Star, Special" yang menjadi lambang masa depan mereka. Sementara "S" kedua adalah singkatan untuk "singer", dan "501" berarti 5 yang abadi menjadi satu.[1]
Pada April 2006, SS501 manggung di Nippon Budōkan memperingati mulai mengudaranya televisi kabel Mnet Japan. Di keesokan harinya mereka mengadakan jumpa penggemar. Konser pertama di Jepang diadakan di Grand Cube Osaka, bulan September tahun yang sama. Setelah bersiap untuk debut di Jepang, singel maxi "Kokoro" dirilis bulan Agustus 2007. "Kokoro" sampai di tangga lagu Oricon urutan ke-5.[1] Singel kedua, "Distance ~Kimi to no Kyori" dirilis 19 September 2007, dan sampai di urutan ke-3 Oricon.[1] Setelah itu, album perdana, SS501 dirilis 24 Oktober 2007.
Kesuksesan di Jepang membuat SS501 menerima Penghargaan Piringan Emas Jepang ke-22, Maret 2008 sebagai salah satu dari 10 artis pendatang baru terbaik.[2]

Young Saeng host SS501's Youngstreet (SBS, 2006) dengan sesama anggota Taman JungMin dari 1 Mei 2006. He had to part with the program in Aug'06 due to some problems on his vocal cords which requires surgery and time to recover. Dia harus berpisah dengan program di Aug'06 karena masalah pada pita suaranya yang memerlukan pembedahan dan waktu untuk pulih.
In 2008, due to 2 members' busy schedules, Jung Min performing in a Korean production of the musical “Grease” and Hyun Joong filming drama “Boys Over Flowers”, SS501's album which was originally due for release in late 2008, was to be pushed back to July 2009. Pada tahun 2008, karena 2 anggota 'sibuk jadwal, Min Jung tampil di sebuah produksi Korea musikal "Grease" dan Hyun Joong film drama "Boys Over Flowers", album SS501 yang semula akan dirilis pada akhir 2008, akan mendorong kembali ke Juli 2009.
Instead, a sub unit of SS501 was formed, with Heo Young Saeng as the leader of this sub unit. Sebaliknya, suatu sub unit SS501 dibentuk, dengan Heo Young Saeng sebagai pemimpin sub unit. Other two members in this unit are Kim Kyu Jong and Kim Hyung Joon . Dua anggota lain di unit ini adalah Kim Kyu Jong dan Kim Hyung Joon. This unit group was initially named “Triple S” but they changed it back to “SS501″, reason being that they are 5 members always as 1. Kelompok unit ini pada awalnya bernama "Triple S" tapi mereka berubah itu kembali ke "SS501", alasannya adalah bahwa mereka adalah 5 anggota selalu sebagai 1. The unit group released a special project album “UR Man” (released on November 25, 2008). Kelompok unit merilis album proyek khusus "UR Man" (dirilis pada 25 November 2008).
Young Saeng composed and wrote his solo song, '사랑인거죠 (Is it Love?)' which is also included in the special project album. Young Saeng menyusun dan menulis lagu solo, '사랑 인거죠 (Apakah Cinta?)' Yang juga termasuk dalam album proyek khusus. This song is written while SS501 were having activities in Japan in 2007. Lagu ini ditulis ketika SS501 sedang kegiatan di Jepang pada tahun 2007. He is the first member to have both composed and wrote lyrics for a song. Dia adalah anggota pertama memiliki kedua terdiri dan menulis lirik untuk sebuah lagu.
Finishing their promotional activities for “UR Man”, they continued their activities to promote “내 머리가 나빠서 (Because I am stupid)”, a song they sang for the OST of “Boys Before Flowers”. Menyelesaikan kegiatan promosi mereka untuk "UR Man", mereka melanjutkan kegiatan mereka untuk mempromosikan "내 머리 가 나빠서 (Karena aku bodoh)", mereka menyanyikan sebuah lagu untuk OST dari "Anak-anak Sebelum Bunga".
